I still have a little trouble understanding how Aflac or similar programs could be beneficial to me over and above my other health insurance... it doesn't seem like it's of much utility to my situation, but perhaps I'm mistaken. I don't know it it's me, or if the folks explaining it sort of missed my personal buttons. (Most of the talk sounded a bit like standard insurance fear-mongering.) The whole medical / insurance system really gets my goat sometimes - there's always a feel of a protection racket itching in the back of my skull.
Heard through the grapevine that my ex's home went into foreclosure. I pity her, but I don't know the whole situation. I hope that she and her family find a good place to crash and get cover... seems like a heck of a thing to happen at Christmas.
Thinking good thoughts about BHK today. She has been working very hard for quite some time on multiple difficult projects. Digging up old records is tough ... the chain of information is full of weak links. I remember how annoying it was just to shift information between Comcast and Verizon - slip that same information between state and federal agencies, and it only adds to the mountain of paperwork, receipt of careless service and red tape.
I have the urge to map out my office building (at least the floor I'm on), our house in North Beach, and maybe some of WMATA in a fps engine like counterstrike or half-life, just to do it. Home wouldn't be a huge undertaking, and I have the layout of the tower... but the subway might be tricky. Given the huge number of mods out there already, it wouldn't surprise me if it already existed in some rippable form.
I wanted my own radio station when I was in High school... call letters WMBT - wombat radio.
After work, we visited the in-laws for a bit.... watched The Santa Clause. It's sort of nice to have fun family nearby. Nobody else had seen the film, which was received well enough.

At the beginning of the game, you and a partner-in-crime are assigned a secret weapon. To onlookers, it will seem like a random act of kindness. But to a select group of other players, the seemingly benevolent gesture is a deadly maneuver that will bring them to their knees.
Some players will be slain by a serenade. Others will be killed by a compliment. You and your partner might be taken down by an innocent group cheer.
You will be given no information about your targets. No name, no photo, nothing but the guarantee that they will remain within the outdoor game boundaries during the designated playing time. Green Lantern and Superboy. I doubt that they'll catch on as much as the Batgirl one did (With nearly 1000 people doing drawings), but the variety of art on a single subject is really enjoyable. If I were still supers-gaming, there'd be a lot of raw material to harvest for costume / character thoughts, too.
Flickr keywords still seem to work for batgirl, though the others haven't quite taken off yet.

Bro has a new (used) Nissan truck, an X-box, and PS2 again... new games. Moving north has been exchanged for shacking up with some supposedly drug-free woman in Hollywood. She's got to be a bit older than him, has a 19 year old son that doesn't live at home with her. (Bro is 33). We'll see how that works out.

The Dan-man and I went out to an all-you-dare-eat buffet for Sushi/Thai/Chinese, and it was actually quite good. Afterward, we swung by Crabby Jacks to solve his caffeine needs and Miranda got a pretty awesome tip ($5 after a bill for $0.69 - the coffee was free and I had a draft) - after we hung out a bit and chitty-chatted. I told him a bit about my beliefs regarding meeting someone for a lifelong commitment at this point (I suspect odds of meeting someone that I have chemistry with, a minimum of emotional baggage, and a mutual appreciation of one another to be very, very, very slim.) Explained to him why Magda wasn't a viable option, though she and I did have a nice time together. I honestly don't know if there are any wedding bells in my future, but If I were a betting man, I know that I'd opt for "not likely." I know good couples are out there... Dave & Cathi / GrayPumpkin & Katt are two of the best examples of two pairings as well-suited for one another for life that I can think of.

Dan got me a few very nice gifts for Christmas.... No Software this year. A used book on dinosaurs, a new copy of Pratchett's Last Hero, a t-shirt and a zip-up shirt (both too small, unfortunately), a carrying case for a digital camera/palmtop, and some jalepeno peanuts. We tried out the Peking House restauant, but it had a bad vibe, so we went to the one we're more fond of dining at.

Went out with Danny last night to Ugly Tuna Saloona. We didn't have the interest or time for a movie, but we enjoyed the hangout quite a lot... its a quiet joint in the early evening, and the servers were very attentive. (We had the same server we had last time, and I think that we were remembered from our last visit about a month ago.) I think we've found a new hangout! We still need to check out the new casino.
Big Kahuna called right as we were sitting down ... she wanted me to go back to the office and burn a cd, but fortunately it can wait until this morning.

I remember first grade really well. Teacher was Mr. Adams, tall, skinny guy who wore red sweaters that made me think of Gilligan, was an Aquarius. Pointed out that you could tell if it was raining by looking for concentric rings in puddles.
Second & Third Grade - I don't remember much, except that one of my teachers was named Mrs. Scott, and that I hated writing in cursive. Reading and Math were exceptionally easy (throughout school, really, except when it came to having to memories trig stuff... it bored me to tears.)

Today went a bit better than yesterday, even though RI inadvertently tore a letter from my brother in half and chucked it out, thinking it was trash. I had to instruct her kindly, but firmly that she is to *never* touch my things again without asking me first. I feel it was an honest mistake, albeit one that could've been avoided if she wasn't being a busybody in my office.
Back's doing well... I'm going to get info on the surgery a week from tomorrow.
Haven't heard from my brother in a few days... I'm getting a bit antsy. Hopefully tomorrow will bring a letter.

I have the songs "old gray goose" and "hole in the bucket" rattling through my noggin this morning. I woke up early, but was slow to get out of bed. I was sleeping on my side , and newt was the length of my back, snuggled up.. no escape!
7:57 am Power out in half of the building when I arrived. I only hope it'll be back up quickly. First clue was the BK next door in a blackout... No morning fizzy drinks or coffee to jump start. The elevator is kaput, too... At least I wasn't in there with RI ! The maintenance man says it has been out since he got here at seven. I'm not sure of what use I can be until there's juice, but I'll get to scramble immediately afterwards.

Got my packages into the mail, so goodies (and forwarded goodies) should be winging the way to points north as I type this.
Getting together with the Bro tomorrow for an early supper at Tokyo bowl...I figure we can get out convo caught up there over some California rolls and miso, or bean burritos and rice. I want to spend as much time with him as possible before he heads off.
Ol' Network gave us some trouble today, right as I was setting up an email account.. I thought first that the pc was down, then the server.. it turned out internet was broken across the board. A mild setback and we were up and running in under an hour.
I had a nice email convo, and got to call Kev on the phone to ask for him to donate some hardware, software and license stuff to ACIM, and also make a tentative appointment for a get together at IHOP for some tasty nighttime breakfast.
Putting a lot of our donated art stuff from Las Olas on eBay, and tracking that is going to be a daily fun stop

I can't even remotely say how happy I am about the day's events.
Talked to three cool people today; Danny at lunch, Ray after, and my sweetie after that. So nice!
Lunch with Danny was groovy... we had Thai (I had red curry tofu) , and a long rambling talk about assorted things.... my journal, his church, his 8-hour Saturday class, FAU's horrible record-keeping and baurocratic system, my brother, gaming, There... and lots more. Gave Danny a stamp to put on his good student's papers..."Double Happiness"
Ack, photos didn't come out from today very well. We went past a number of art galleries on Las Olas... some amazing sculptures in the windows there... sadly, the female forms made of chain and coins didn't come out an auction house with tons of ivory had this cool dragon boat in the window... all hand carved. I don't even want to know how much that much old ivory is costing.

We got some chocolate covered pretzels form Kilwins for dessert... (I got some rocky road fudge for later) Dan teased Bonnie, who was putting out chocolate coins, and she was reasonably cool with it. The smell was heavenly. Interesting woodcarvings of African animals, too.
Afterwards, I got home, managed to get some work happening, and got a nice phone call from Ray... it's been about 7 years since I spoke with him voice, and he sounds exactly the same. It was great fun catching up with him, even though work sort of interrupted a few times near the bottom. That’s the high price of telecommuting, I suppose. I look forward to more gabs in the future.
Nobody's business but mine what I gabbed to sweetie about, but suffice to say, she's spellbinding.

Weirdo dreams last night... I dreamt that I was a professional shopper.. one of those guys that goes to stores, buys something, and then appraises the salespeople. I was pretty nice overall, but got mad when a lady figured out who I was, and tried to bribe me with free hats. Hmm.. I was hasty on judging the Newtcam dead... it looks ok this morn... I guess it's just spotty. (I'm still getting a new one, soon.)
Egads! There's a Cap'n Crunch and (even better) Jean La Foote action figure! I wonder if Jean'll be at the toy fair this thanksgiving.
