Man with a gun lives here

7692 - Where's that paintbrush?

I'm an evil, evil person, because I think that this whole Katrina thing would be a great way to cover up a murder. I wonder how many bodies out there were drowned by people that are using the weather as a fall guy?

My second thought was about all those Anne Rice stalkers / fans that try to emulate vampires... I wonder how well those guys are crossing running water, now?

In all earnestness, reports like this bring me down -

****ALL RESIDENTS ON THE EAST BANK OF ORLEANS AND JEFFERSON REMAINING IN THE METRO AREA ARE BEING TOLD TO EVACUATE AS EFFORTS TO SANDBAG THE LEVEE BREAK HAVE ENDED. THE PUMPS IN THAT AREA ARE EXPECTED TO FAIL SOON AND 12-15 FEET OF WATER ARE EXPECTED IN THE ENTIRE EAST BANK.****

Residents will probably be allowed back in town in a week, with identification only, but only to get essentials and clothing. You will then be asked to leave and not come back for one month.

EN still doesn't have power at his house, but most everyone else is up and running again.

I have the urge to clink bottles together and taunt... "Warr-iors.... come out and play-ayyyy".

This is how I feel today.

Once he made me so mad
I knocked him on the floor;
He rolled around and found a
little paint brush
by the door;
As he held it in his teeth
he painted angels
On the skirt I wore.

7693 - meme over miami

Interests meme -

Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. (I figured I'd tweak the mem a little bit, and clarify each selection)

azru jehu - the pen name of a poet that is truly a delight, and I've been the subject of one or two of her works.

cats - Well, one orange cat in particular, really, but I've become more a feline fan after adopting him.

dark humor - I do have a morbid streak in me. I think Shaun of the Dead is a great flick, and Life of Brian always makes me smile.

fireflies - always have loved 'em... bioluminescence is a nifty, nifty characteristic. If I were Animal Man, I'd certainly make include the ability in my arsenal. Plus, flying, floating, green-blue lights flickering on and of makes me think of baby will-o-wisps. I haven't seen fireflies since I was last camping on the Peace river.

halloween - Another classic Scotto standby... I used to really be a giant fan of halloween and go all out, though I haven't done much the last few years. I adopted Newt in October, and he's a little punkin kitty. I rather miss the old Halloween games and dressing up... hopefully my new place will get lots of trick or treaters. A great excuse to enjoy the frightening side of life.

hong kong cinema- Yup, I dig the chop-socky action/mythology wire-fu stuff. Over the top insanity, with no apologies.

karma- I doubt if it exists, but I like the idea of everyone getting what's coming to them for good or ill.

moonrise- I like it when there's a nicely lit evening. A giant silver-dollar moon in the sky makes me feel good. I feel at my best after dark, but when I can still see where I'm going. The world is a quieter place when the sun goes down. You can peel back a few layers.

occidental culture- I put this in to sidebar off of oriental culture, really. I dig a lot of things that are distinctly of this continent. The East isn't the only font of wisdom or the surreal.

photography- I'm not the best at composition, but I really enjoy seeing the world through other people's eyes. Stuff looks different from each person's perspective, and that aspect of my nosiness loves to take in scenes I might otherwise never see.

reason - There's a surprising lack of it. So few people apply rational thought to what they do.  I laud anyone who just thinks once in a while.

the angry beavers - Norb and Dag remind me a lot of me and my bro growing up. Very similar dynamic, sometimes tragically so.

truth - I'd rather know what was really up than be told a comfortable lie. I've had a lot of truth issues in my life, and have discovered that it's just easier for everyone if you are honest. (you don't have to be brutal, either, you can be gentle with most delivery.)

westerns - see occidental culture, above. Books, movies, etc... I wasn't huge into the genre until I got out of college, but after that, things sort fo took off. The old west is an amazing setting. Vigilante law is the norm, hookers with hearts of gold, and lots of gunplay in the desert.

zombies - mmm... brains. Unstoppable reanimated bodies (including mummies... or the Terminator, I suppose) swarming, especially slow-moving, single-motivation people. Fantastic horror element, and can be played up effectively for fear, laughs or drama. Certainly my all time favorite type of monster, even more than Godzilla-types or Were-basties which are also quite close to my heart. Vampires, demons and evil spirits just don't have the same Scotto-vibe. Those things are just yucky.
