2/18 – Wednesday
o 5:00pm – ITSS is continuing to monitor the network for any new malware infections. One new infected machine was identified and removed today.

Emergency Password Reset

What is happening and why?
Our research on the spam/phishing email attack has indicated a system infected with the malware (Dyre) will attempt to harvest credentials for online services, including banking services. To protect our impacted employees, we will be forcing users of workstations that were infected with the virus to create a new password.

When is it happening?
Today, Wednesday, February 18, 2015, starting at 8:00 p.m. EST.

Who will be affected?
Only users with workstations infected by the recent Spam/Phishing attack. These users will be prompted to reset their password even if they are using a reimaged or different computer, VDI, or another method of connecting to the network.

What will you notice?
If your workstation was infected by the recent Spam/Phishing Attack, starting tonight, at 8:00 p.m. EST, you will be prompted to create a new password.

What actions do you need to take?

• If you are on the DOT network:
o If you are currently logged in, you will be prompted to create a new password.
o If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to create a new password when you login.
• If you are using VDI:
o If you are currently connected, you will be prompted to create a new password.
o If you are not connect to VDI, you will be prompted to create a new password before connecting.
• If you are using VPN:
o If you are currently connected through the VPN, you will be prompted to create a new password.
o If you are not connected to VPN, you will be prompted to change your password before connecting.
• If you are using Remote.Dot.gov:
o If you are currently logged in you will be logged out.
o If you are not logged in, you will need to reset your password via 5-HELP, VDI or VPN before accessing remote.dot.gov.
