Quick thoughts on E3 – Playstation

Horizon: Zero Dawn – Looks cool, but maybe a little hokey, but visually stunning. If the gameplay is as good, I’d be all for it. Post apocalyptic Turok-ish humans vs. robo-critters.

Firewatch - very endearing! I liked the art style and the script. The setting is interesting and seems unique.

Dreams - Media Molecule’s “Shared puppetry / sculpture” art game. I really liked what was shown, and can see a lot of potential there, given how they did the Little Big Planet shared tools and levels service. I’m looking forward to seeing how this goes – could be a flop, but I’m pretty enthusiastic for the creative toolkit concept. (Curious that I didn’t see anything about Tearaway on PS4 coming soon?)

No Man’s Sky – similar feelings to the above. I like what I’ve seen, but I’m curious as to what I’ve *not* seen. Still no release date, looks like it’ll be fun to putter in.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III - looks complicated.  I wonder if it’ll have the same paranoid vibe the original Blops had.

Batman – Arkham Night  - Scarecrow levels, Not a good enough glimpse to decide, but looks nice. I enjoyed Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Never got to do Origins.

Last Guardian - Long overdue, and hopefully it will be as fun as Shadow of the Colossus.  Not in a hurry to pick it up, but will likely grab it used or part of a collection later on down the line. Looks like it might just be a very pretty platformer-puzzle game.

Hitman - Sure, I’m up for another Hitman. I’ve dug what I’ve played of the series thus far. (Even Hitman Go is nice)

Uncharted 4: Looks like good ol’ Uncharted. The car chase scene was nuts, and looked like gameplay was fun (once they got Nathan to move)

Destiny: The Taken King - Meh, I never really got into Destiny. This looks like more of the same.

Street Fighter V – Nice to see a little flashback, but again, not really my vibe.

World of Final Fantasy  - Chibi versions of FF folks. Didn’t grab me.  Some folks in the audience were pleased though.

Final Fantasy VII Remake  - I never tried the original FFVII, but it has a rabid following. The crowd seemed very happy. I did like Final Fantasy XI back in the day, but that was more because I was gaming with Lynn and Sammy than anything else. Sakes… last I played that was at the top of 2004?

Shenmue III – outside of my genre again. Not crazy about seeing kickstarted stuff at a major label, but if that’s what it takes for folks to get a grassroots game launched, good for them, I suppose.

Disney Infinity 3.0 – seemed very out of place, since the venue was 17+, no kids. I’m sure it will be quite profitable. I don’t have any room in my house for more “accessories” like that, but I might be interested in the LEGO Dimensions when it comes to pass.

Star Wars Battlefront - more to the age and interests of the crowd. I’ll be interested in seeing how well it plays.

Playstation Vue - cable channels a la carte. no word on pricing, but that may fit how we grab HBO.

Devolver games – not bad, not awesome.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate – Female protagonist, no visible glitches. I wonder if it’ll be as good as the best or as bad as the worst? I could see getting into it if playable.

Rigs – could be fun. Seems simple, but since it’s the whole VR thing, I’m unlikely to dig too deeply into that.
